Adam At ACAA Leadership Exchange

Adam as he leads a workshop.

My current favorite topic is that leadership is unpredictable. It is difficult to predict when, where, how, or why leadership will happen. Leadership’s unpredictability is difficult to cope with.

To make leadership more manageable I talk about strategies that build faith and readiness for leadership. Faith in your mind that leadership will happen. Readiness in your heart when leadership does happen.

Keynote: Trust & Readiness

Introduction: The ‘story’ of leadership.  Three rhetorical questions: Where is your beginning? Where is your middle?  How will your story end?  I keep the show interactive by asking these questions involves a miniaturized game-show style demonstration with three to five audience members participating on stage.

Key points: Includes a personal story about a young boy who helps his father climb a mountain. The boy climbed first, the boy showed his dad the way, and the boy provided support and encouragement when dad doubted himself. The story illustrates what leadership is and why leadership can be unpredictable; consider the unlikely circumstances of a boy serving as his dad’s leader.

You never know when, where, how, or why leadership will happen! To cope with not knowing when, where, how, or why leadership will happen young and emerging leaders can build trust in their mind that leadership will happen and readiness in their heart for when it does.

Wrap up: Six compelling anecdotal stories and six poignant questions associated with measuring trust in the mind that leadership will happen and readiness in the heart for when it does. I keep attention through the end with a surprise tie back to the introductory question. How will your story end?
