This week’s DepositHope starts with notes from Swami Rama of the Himalayan Institute. Rama wrote the Art of Joyful Living full of thoughts and ideas about happiness and fulfillment. He has an inspirational and motivational idea that I couldn’t help myself from sharing.
Develop thirty goals for thirty days, and pick on goal for each day. You may decide that today you are not going to lie. When you decide, “I will not lie,” suddenly many occasions will present themselves when you could lie. This happens because you are trying to conquer your nature. The next day you may resolve, “I will not be unkind to anyone,” and as soon as you decide to do that, everything challenging will come to you. The day that you resolve, “I will love everyone and not hate anyone today,” you will find that all your enemies are coming to you. [You may] decide that one day you will speak very little. (Paraphrased).
Other ideas include offering a compliment to everyone you meet, saying no gossip, organize your book collection, eat only healthy foods, reconnect with an old friend, etc. Thirty days is a long time! How about ten days, or seven, or three?
This week’s challenge involves choosing at least three goals on which you can focus for a period of three days. Write your challenges on your calendar or on a sheet of paper if you don’t have a calendar. Make sure you see your challenges each day so you don’t forget. If this works for you then try again for more days. Enjoy! Happy Monday.
